Privacy

Signify Insights is a static, no-login publishing and interactive-learning site. We have built it to collect as little as possible about you.

What we collect

There are no accounts and no logins. The games, simulations and self-assessments run entirely in your browser — your answers, scores and results are processed on your device and are not stored on our servers or transmitted to us. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies, and nothing you do here is tracked or profiled. The cookies we do set, and everything the site keeps in your browser, is listed below.

Cookies and local storage

We set three cookies. All are first-party and all exist only to remember something you did yourself.

• sitheme — the single word light or dark, written when you use the theme switch. It has to be a cookie rather than local storage so the page knows your choice before it draws; without it, choosing dark mode would still leave you with a white flash on every new page. Lasts a year.
• si_rttf and si_cup — set only if you play Road to the Final or The Ethics Cup, and only once a match starts. Each records which route you picked and which round you reached, so the tournament is still there when you come back. Nothing else. Three months, and clearing either just starts that Cup again.

All are sent with same-site requests only. There is no advertising, analytics or tracking cookie of any kind, and no third party sets a cookie here because the site loads nothing from a third party: no external scripts, no embedded players, no tracking pixels, and the fonts are served from this domain.

Rather more is kept in your browser’s local storage, which never leaves the device and is not sent with any request:

• sitheme — your light or dark choice again, which is what the site reads first; the cookie is only the fallback.
• signify_v1 — your profile. In full: the name or nickname you typed; which pieces you have finished, how many times, your best score and when you last played each one; your display preferences such as read-aloud, font, contrast and motion; which Signify Fieldwork steps you have ticked, and when; and, on the Signify Kids side, your badges, pollen and garden. It also keeps anything you chose to save — the wish you wrote in Genie’s Loophole, the rules you wrote in Guardrail Builder, the write-up from Remix Studio — in the words you typed them. We do not ask for your age, an email address or anything else.
• si:fw-guest — Signify Fieldwork progress when you have not made a profile.
• si:pg-view — whether you last looked at the Playground as the board or as cards. One word.

One older key, sikids_v1, is read once and deleted if an early version of this site left it on your device. Nothing writes to it.

We say this plainly because it is the part worth knowing: a profile can contain a child’s first name and things a child has written, and it lives only in the browser you made it in. We never receive it, it is not backed up, and it does not follow you to another device. The profile page gives you Delete this profile, which removes it and everything finished under it, and Reset progress, which keeps the profile and clears what it has completed; clearing your browsing data for this site removes everything either way. There is also Save a backup if you want a copy before you do. That file holds everything listed above — the name, and anything written in the profile, in the words it was typed — so keep it somewhere you would keep a school book, and only restore a backup you saved yourself. The trade-off is deliberate and it runs both ways: there is nothing here for us to breach, lose or hand over, and equally nothing we can restore for you.

Read-aloud, and the one thing that can leave your device

Signify Kids can read a challenge aloud. It is off unless you turn it on, and when it is on we hand the sentence to your own browser’s built-in speech feature. We want to be straight about what that means, because it is the single place where text can leave your device: some browsers speak using a voice on the device, and others send the sentence to the browser maker’s servers to be turned into audio. Which one yours does is your browser’s choice, not ours, and it can differ between a phone and a laptop. Where a challenge repeats back something a child has typed, that sentence goes the same way. If this matters to you, leave read-aloud off — nothing else on this site behaves this way.

Because the three cookies exist only to remember something you chose to do, and nothing here is used to track, profile or advertise to you, there is no consent banner. We would rather tell you exactly what is stored than ask you to dismiss a dialogue.

Hosting and logs

The site is served through Cloudflare Pages. As with any website, the hosting provider may process standard technical information (such as IP address and browser type) in its server logs to keep the service secure and performant. That processing is governed by the hosting provider’s own policies. We do not sell or rent personal data.

Submitting an idea

The “Submit an idea” feature opens your own email application so you can write to us directly. Anything you choose to send by email is handled as ordinary correspondence; the site itself does not capture it.
